Serving with Your Time & Talent
At St. Andrew's – Markham, we believe that stewardship is far more than financial giving: it is the grateful response of our hearts, hands, and lives to God's abundant generosity. Everything we do with our time and talent reflects our walk with Christ. Here, you are invited to share those gifts in service—to one another, to our community, and to God's mission.
Why Volunteer?
Because God gives generously. Our lives, our abilities, our stories—everything comes from God. When we share those gifts, we reflect Christ's generous, abundant, joy-filled, hopeful love.
Because we are better together. Each person brings something unique: a smile at the door, a voice in the choir, an hour helping with a community lunch, a willingness to try something new. As we serve together, we build friendships, strengthen our church community, and witness our faith in action.
Because small contributions make a big difference. Not everyone has endless time—but even giving a few Sundays a year or a couple of hours a month helps. Whether you prefer short-term, seasonal participation or longer-term commitments, both are valuable and welcomed.
Because serving is a form of worship. Just as we give our treasure, we can give our time and talents. That offering of ourselves is a powerful way to honour God, affirm one another, and bless our community.
Where You Can Serve at St. Andrew's
We have many ways to join in—something for every interest, skill level, and schedule. Here are some of the opportunities:
Sunday Morning Roles: greeter, usher, coffee-time host, scripture reader, choir member, sound/AV operator, children's program helper
Building & Grounds / Maintenance: help with yard work, minor building repairs, facility upkeep
Hospitality & Community Events: bake or bring treats, help set up for events, join craft/fundraising teams, assist at our annual sale or special outreach activities
Creative Gifts & Talents: are you a crafter, a musician, good with graphics or social media, or have ideas for a fun community get-together? We'd love to hear from you.
Short-Term Projects: one-time or limited commitments are welcome—for example, helping for a month with Sunday School, assisting at a holiday event, or volunteering at a community meal. This is especially good for those who may not be ready for a year-long role.
Leadership & Committees: for those who feel called to steady service, we have various ministry teams and committees, working together to shape the life and mission of the church.
How to Get Started
Pray and reflect. Ask God: "What gifts have you given me? How might I use them in service?"
Think of your time. Whether you can offer one hour a month, one day a season, or four hours a week—every bit helps.
Contact us. Drop us a note via the Contact page or talk with Rev. Jim or one of the ministry coordinators, or come on a Sunday and chat with one of our team members.
Try something new. We encourage you to explore a new role, even if it seems a stretch or different than what you normally do. We'll walk with you.
Be flexible. Everyone's time and circumstances change. Short-term, seasonal roles are fine. We value both those who sprint and those who run the marathon.
Receive gratitude and growth. Serving is not only about giving—it's about being enriched, connected, and transformed in Christ's community.
Your Impact
Imagine the multiplying effect: if many of us offered just a few hours, what might we accomplish together? More fellowship, more outreach, more love in our community, and more visible witness of Christ in this place. Let your gifts be used, your time be shared, and your talent be offered—and watch how God blesses not just others, but you also.
